Samiramay Tarot

Creator(s): Vera Petruk
Date: 2017
Country: Russia
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 78
ISBN:
Type: other
Reference:

Notes:
This Tarot deck was created by the Russian illustrator Vera Petruk, who uses the alias Samiramay. There is another Tarot,  The Old Memories Tarot, by the same creator, which uses the same images for the Majors but different ones for the Minors. It also has different backs and a different border and isn't fully colored like this one.

The images are done in watercolors, liners and pencils. The cards are made look vintage with horizontal rippled stripes. It's a self-published deck, that is printed on demand and can be ordered on makeplayingcards.com. It's cards only, they are  shrink wrapped without box or bag.

Each card has zodiac and alchemy related symbols on it. The Minors are pips with a number at the center surrounded by symbols . Each suit has has a token image, which is displayed on the Minors. The suit of Wands shows a salamander, Cups display a set of three leaves, Swords has a violett flower and Pentacles come with a snake.

The Majors have the  usual number in yellow, most times (but not always) at the top center, additional they have most times (but not always) a Hebrew letter in the upper right corner and the corresponding numerical value of the Hebrew letter in the upper left corner. The astrological attributions in the Majors aren't compatible with the Golden Dawn system, but since there comes no booklet with it there is no explanation for the artist's choice.

The backs show a pattern with the Star of David and are not reversible.

Tarot 2-12-1-3-11

Creator(s): Lynyrd-Jym Narciso
Date: 2010
Country: Philippines

Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 22
ISBN:

Notes:
The 2-12-1-3-11 is a "faux-vintaged" reproduction of the RWS majors. Faces, hands and sometimes whole persons are blackened, what made the images look like photo-negative.

The title of the deck  reads BLACK, when you substitute the number with the letter at the position in the alphabet given by the number.

Blue Moon Tarot

Creator(s): Julie Cuccia-Watts
Date: 2004
Country: USA

Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 22
ISBN: 0-9755510-0-0

Type: other
Reference:
Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. IV, pp. 248, 249

Notes:
The Blue Moon Tarot started as a moon calendar project in 1999 that Julie Cuccia-Watts was commissioned to do by Janet Berres and Ron Losczyk of the Light of the Moon occult bookstore. What evolved was a Pagan calendar based on the twelve full moons of the year and the thirteenth full moon, the Blue Moon.

In 2000 the  images were published as the first edition of the Blue Moon Tarot. That edition was printed on a laser printer and hand cut and glued to a sturdy cardstock. Mine is  from the second edition in 2004, which was printed by a commercial printer. The backs are blank. The second edition has rounded corners (the first had square corners).

This is a signed and numbered edition of 1000 decks. The cards came without a box and with a LWB. At the end of the book is the Blue Moon Tarot System Guide. This is a graphic, done in mandala format, that shows the relationship of the cards to the seasons and to the zodiac.

Mini Rosetta Tarot

Creator(s): M. M. Meleen
Date: 2013
Country: USA
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 78
ISBN:
Type: Thoth
Reference:  artist's page

Notes:
The Mini Rosetta  came in a tin with a double sided satin ribbon. The tin has a tyvek silica gel insert that cushions the decks in the tin (hidden by the ribbon) and also protects the deck and tin from humidity.

The cards are approximately 3 1/4 by 2 1/8  inches and there is no LWB. It is a signed and numbered edition of 555. Some of the decks have a red satin ribbon wrap, the others a blue one. Mine is number 18 and is a blue variant. It is one of the first 22 sold that means it has a significator customized with my name in hieroglyphs, later sold decks just include an insert with hieroglyphs and directions how to self customize.

There also is included a leather pouch for the deck, which hold the cards safely together not too tight and not too loose. That  is to prevent that the tin gets scratched up from carrying it.

This time the significator card is printed on the same stock as the rest of the deck and  just  the name in hieroglyphs added manually. My name is written a little bit different from the significator card that came with the full-sized deck. Maybe vowels at the beginning are optional in hieroglyphic language.

Stone Tarot

Creator(s): Alison Stone
Date: 2000
Country: USA
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 78+1
ISBN:
Type: Marseilles
Reference:
Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. IV, pp. 176, 177

Notes:
Alison Stone is a poet, artist, and Wiccan High Priestess. The cards in the Stone Tarot Deck are reproduced from original oil paintings by Alison Stone and the deck is distributed through her web site.

Most of the trumps are based on Italian or Marseilles designs, without occult details such as in the Waite and Crowley decks. The numeric cards are pips, illustrated using arrangements of the four suit symbols.

The deck follows the classical tarot naming and numbering tradition with one minor variation; it is gender balanced. For two of the Minor Arcana suits, the Page is a male and the rider on the horse is a female (Amazon). For the other two suits, the Page is a female and the rider is a male (Knight). The deck has an additional blank card for those who incorporate that into their readings.

The sheet that comes with the deck has very little background information,  it only offers brief interpretations for every card.

Tarot as Muse

Creator(s): Collaboration
Date: 2012
Country: USA
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 22
ISBN:
Type: Other
Reference: artist's page

Notes:
Tarot as a Muse is a fund raiser for Ink People Center for the Arts, conceived by Kathryne DeLorme, Carolyn Ayres and Libby Maynard. Each artist chose their card sight unseen from the 22 Majors, so one can say that the card chose them. Each artist then received a Tarot reading about why this archetype chose them and then took their "muse" back to their respective studios to see what would emerge. In July of 2012 there was an exhibition of all 22 paintings.

The cards are oversized ( 6.75 inches x 4.5 inches ). The backs have a reversible, black and white pattern. Strength is 8, Justice is 11. The cards came in a red paper envelope accompanied by a 28 page explamatory booklet.

Creator(s): Ingerid Blakstad
Date: 1998
Country: Norway
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 78
ISBN:
Type: Marseilles
Reference: artist's page

Notes:
The deck is based on tarot card fabric collages. The different materials and stitching used for each card imbue the entire deck with an 'textured' look. An eye motif appears on every card except for The Fool, which  just bears the words “The missing Fool”.

The deck was issued in a limited edition of 1,000 copies -- 100 signed, and 900 unsigned. The cards are encased in box with a ribbon tie.

Creator(s): Paul Afong Jr.
Date: 2001
Country: USA
Publisher: self-published
Number of Cards: 22
ISBN:
Type: RWS
Reference: artist's page

Notes:
Paul Afong is an artist and graphic designer, he did the line work for each original painting in a very small scale, and subsequently enlarged it. The backgrounds were created by finger painting with acrylic paints. The deck was named 723 Tarot, because the artist's birthday was July 23rd. The card numbering is traditional; Strength is eight and Justice is 11.

The 723 Tarot is a limited edition of 50 copies signed and numbered by the artist, mine is number 49. They come in a red fold over cardboard cover with a matching band that slips over the case and on which the deck information is printed. The backs are plain black.
