The Blue Moon Tarot started as a moon calendar project in 1999 that Julie Cuccia-Watts was commissioned to do by Janet Berres and Ron Losczyk of the Light of the Moon occult bookstore. What evolved was a Pagan calendar based on the twelve full moons of the year and the thirteenth full moon, the Blue Moon.

In 2000 the  images were published as the first edition of the Blue Moon Tarot. That edition was printed on a laser printer and hand cut and glued to a sturdy cardstock. Mine is  from the second edition in 2004, which was printed by a commercial printer. The backs are blank. The second edition has rounded corners (the first had square corners).

This is a signed and numbered edition of 1000 decks. The cards came without a box and with a LWB. At the end of the book is the Blue Moon Tarot System Guide. This is a graphic, done in mandala format, that shows the relationship of the cards to the seasons and to the zodiac.

Golden Gomera Tarot (New Century Tarot)

The Golden Gomera Tarot was created by German artist and architect Rolf Eichelman, while vacationing on the island of La Gomera (one of the Canary Islands). Eichelmann was inspired by Stewart Kaplans book Tarot Classic, which he received as a gift from his wife.

All cards have a patterned tapestry-like backdrop running down the centre behind the main figure or suit element, and the colours of this backdrop change for each major and each suit. In the far background, all majors have a palisade of reddish trees silhouetted against a navy sky, the foliage of which changes subtly for each card, making the individual cards feel as though they are yet part of a whole, united world.

The deck was first published in 2003 by US Games. The US Games edition has smaller cards and a different back design ( Golden Gomera : 85 mm by 122 mm / New Century : 82 mm by 111 mm )

Margarete Petersen Tarot

Margarete Petersen is a Berlin based painter who began painting Tarot cards in 1979. It took her about twenty years to complete the deck.

There are feminine undertones in Margarete Petersen's imagery but there is no apparent fundamentalist feminism.

Some of the Major Arcana have been renamed: The Magician/Magic, The Chariot/Chariotess, The Hermit/The Crone, The Hanged Man/Trial, Temperance/Mediatrix, and Judgment/Renewal. The Court Cards are Mother, Father, Daughter, and Son. The suits are Flames, Cups, Feathers, and Coins.

The cards are large (3 3/4" by 5 1/2"). The reversible backs have an orange pattern. The deck and accompanying LWB come as a set in a box with a lift-off top.

Dali Tarot

This deck was first published by Distribucions d’Art Surrealista and Comos Naipes of Spain in 1984. It consists of collage compositions which incorporate the works of other artists. Amanda Lear claimed to have assisted Dali in the completition of the collages.

Dali adds his own touch to each design by using washes of color and semi-abstract shapes and adding his abstract signature onto the cards, incorporating them into each design.

The Major Arcana bear German titles on top and Spanish titles below and are numbered I through XXI from the Magician to the World. Justice is numbered VIII and Strength is XI.

Hebrew letters are assigned to the cards starting with Aleph at the Magician through Resh at Judgment, and Tau is assigned to The World. The Fool is unnumbered and has the Hebrew letter Shin.  Planetary and Zodiacal associations are somewhat different from those usually found.

The four suit emblems are painted into the designs. Wands are painted as green staves with small leafs,  Swords are depicted as blue double-edged broadswords, Cups are painted as yellow lotus-patterned chalices and Coins are illustrated as flat disks of yellow with  pentagrams.

The Court Cards are titled in Spanish. The Suits Bastos, Copas, Espadas and Oros refer to Staffs, Cups, Swords and Discs, respectively. And the Court Cards Sota, Caballero, Reina and Rey are Page, Knight, Queen and King.

Notes:
Lorena B. Moore is a blacksmith/metalworker who lives in Tucson, Arizona. Her Ironwing Tarot celebrates the ancient art of blacksmithing and its connection with shamanism. The deck is inspired by nature, geology and metallurgy, and the sacred Black Metal itself.

The Ironwing deck consists of slightly renamed Majors as follows: The Lodestone, The Magician, Red Earth, The Forge, The Anvil, Tradition, Connection, The Road, Crystallization, The Hermit, The Wheel, Strength, Trance, Death, Quench, Molten Iron, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, The Furnace and The World. The Majors depict iron geology, blacksmithing tools, and metal refining processes. Vignettes of the shaman’s initiatory experience also appear in many of the cards.

The Minor Arcana  beginning with Ore (Ace) and then proceeding from Two to Ten. The suits are Spikes (fire) which refer to thorns, spines, twigs and resins, Coils (water) refering to shells, flowers and  beach find, Blades(air), which refer to feathers, leaves, herbs and paper, while Bells (earth) refering to roots, gnarled wood, fungi and seeds.

The Face Cards, or Courts, in this deck have been appropriately renamed Spirit Guides, and are called Apprentice (Page), Gatemaker (Knight), Madrone (Queen) and Shaman (King). All are female and depict “four idealized stages of a woman’s growth in the skills and mysteries of the smith’s craft and the shaman’s calling.”


The Art is black and white ink scratchboard drawings. Major Arcana accented with three shades of red ochre, a natural earth pigment and iron ore. The Card backs are non-reversible. The card dimensions are 2.5" x 4.6", printed on white stock with a matte finish. This size is a little wider and shorter than a standard deck.

The deck comes with a spiral bound book, that includes, beyond card descriptions, short essays on iron geology and mythology, blacksmithing and Shamanism.The book is available for free download as pdf  on the artist' website.

Liber T Tarot of Stars Enternal

Notes:
The deck creator, Roberto Negrini, is an Italian Crowley expert. The artist, Andrea Serio, is widely known for his work on the Dante Tarot. The Liber T is a modern redendering of the images from the Crowley-Harris-Thoth but do not contain the emphasis on projective geometry that characterizes the Harris paintings.

Serio’s artistic reinterpretation has lost some of the symbolism in the Thoth images, especially the Golden Dawn color scale correspondences. 

The Minor Arcana are also illustrated, using imagery compiled by Negrini (a  member of the Italian O.T.O.) based on his study of the Decanates.

The booklet attributes these Decans to the Egyptian Star Cult and gives them the name of SIBU SEPESU, or Eternal Stars -- hence the deck’s title. They are primarily derived from the Decan descriptions provided in the Liber Hermetis with a strong overlay of Thelemic-influenced Egyptian mythology and hints of the Ars Memoria. The minor arcana have four suits: Cups, Spheres (Disks), Scepters (Wands) and Swords.

Housewives Tarot

The deck came in a box with dividers that look like a 1950s recipe box.  The backs of the dividers have recipes, such as Divinated Eggs. 

The creators have used midcentury advertising artwork to create a RWS clone with a  50s look.

The Major Arcana cards represent various figures of inspiration and influences of the housewife on her journey through romances, conflicts, trails and tribulations of her suburban existence.

The suits are Pentacles (dishes), Swords ( knives), Cups (glasses) and Wands (brooms and mops).

Sakki-Sakki Tarot

In addition to the regular 78 cards, there is an "Artist Card" which represents the reader, and a title card with astrological symbols and their references on the back.

The Sakki-Sakki comes in a box which uses no glue to be held together, just clever folding and tucking.

Many of the Minor Arcana cards are peopled with headless figures. Wands are called rods, pentacles are coins and the Judgement card is renamed The Angel.

The deck was originally titled, 'The Bohemian Tarot' and the Major and Minor Arcana sets were published seperately as A5 limited-edition (100 copies) folios around 1991 ( as 'Tribal Tarot' in Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. IV, pp. 195-196).

The 2001 Limited Edition, the completed 'BOOK of ChAOS Tarot Deck' , was published as a whole. The 111 copies sold within 6 months. The title changed from the 'ChAOS' of that edition to the 'KAOS' in the 2004 edition.

From the first edition 1991 to the 2004 edition about half of the major arcana have been redrawn, while most of the minors remain unchanged.

There are actually 24 major arcana cards, as there are two differing Lovers cards, and two Devil cards, one with Pan and one with Baphomet. Some titles of the Majors have been altered to a more Thoth-like titling
